Volunteer Opportunities

Calvary Baptist Church
– We have a number of flower beds around the building which need some attention.  If anyone would like to adopt a flower bed to keep our church looking beautiful on the outside, please contact the church office.
Mission Opportunity for October Each Christmas the NC-Women’s Missionary Union distributes red boxes filled with personal hygiene items to women and youth incarcerated in various NC women’s prisons. For many who receive these boxes, it is the only gift they will receive all year. Churches in the Wilmington Association are asked to provide women’s bar soaps. A collection box will be placed in the vestibule near the Welcome Center. Deadline for receiving these donations is Sunday, October 27. Thank you for sharing in this ministry.
Trunk – Or – Treat ~ October 31, 6–7 pm We are taking donations of Halloween candy in the office to hand out to the children. We have more and more kids every year and we always run out of candy and close up before 7:00 pm. We need volunteers to park their car and hand out candy. We will have a sign-up sheet at the Welcome Center. Thank you for your help and donations.
NC Disaster Relief – Letter from Pastor Donnie – All of us are in shock over the magnitude of destruction in our North Carolina mountains from Hurricane Helene.  I’m sure you have seen, as I have, how the little town of Chimney Rock was completely swept away, and many other houses and buildings have been destroyed.  I have read several posts from people who barely made it out alive, and it is beyond belief.  The most important thing we can do is pray for the people of this area.  God can rebuild what has been taken away from them.  We can also give and go.  I have met with our Associational leaders and they have a plan in place.  Working alongside the NC Baptist on Mission, our Association has been assigned our first location in Marion, NC.  Our first team will leave on October 16 and return October 20.  NC Baptist on Mission already has food and shower facilities here and at other locations.  If anyone wants to be part of a team, I can help connect you with the Coordinators.
In addition, our Association will collect much needed items and transport them to the sites for distribution.  A trailer is set up at Seagate Baptist Church, Northside Baptist, and will be here, at Calvary on Sunday evening, October 13, for our Global Missions Conference.  Beginning at 4:30pm, our Southern Baptist Missionaries will be set up to meet us, and at 6pm, we will have a celebration with a joint choir and our own Tehillah.  If possible, please bring items on that evening so we can load the trailer and get it ready to roll out.  If you wish to donate, there are several ways.  One, our Harvest Fund that we collect at Homecoming will go entirely to this disaster relief effort.  Our Association needs funds for purchasing pallets of water and other essential items, as well as fuel to transport the supplies to the mountains.  So, this Sunday, which is Homecoming, give to the Harvest Fund and we will divide our offering for the Association teams and the NC Baptist Men.  Remember, this will be a long-term rebuilding and there will be many opportunities to help these people, but the requested items are as follows:
 Supplies Needed are
A. Diapers, formula, and wipes
B. Canned food with pop tops
C. Cleaning Supplies, rubber gloves, large contractor trash bags, Clorox
D. Paper plates, napkins, utensils, cups, paper towels
E. Gallons of Water & Cases of bottled water.
F. Personal Hygiene Items: soap, deodorant, toilet paper, razors, toothpaste, shampoo,
If possible, to make it better for loading and transporting, we ask that you bring them in cardboard boxes with tops, with the name of the supplies marked on the outside and top.
Remember, we will have the trailer here at Calvary on Sunday evening, October 13, so if possible, bring the items then.  If not, bring them to the office.

Habitat for Humanity
Good afternoon! I wanted to reach out with information about Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity and the volunteer opportunities we have in your community!  In an effort to continue our mission of providing safe, affordable housing we recently started construction of a new 35 home neighborhood, Haven Place, off of Castle Hayne Road!  As we continue to move forward with this neighborhood, we are looking for volunteers that are willing to get their hands dirty! Volunteers (16 years old and up) can assist our construction crews with framing, vinyl siding, interior finishes, landscaping and more! Opportunities are available Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.  No prior construction experience is needed to volunteer, just a willingness to help and learn!  Our site supervisors will teach you everything you need to know! We use an online volunteer system that allows volunteers to sign up for projects they are interested in at their convenience.  We ask that volunteers complete an online application using the links below. Once we receive an application, we will send the applicant an e-mail with instructions on how to log into the system!

Willowdale Farms
Hi! We are so thrilled you’re interested in volunteering with us at Willowdale Urban Farm.
15% of people in New Hanover County are food insecure – meaning they lack consistent access to healthy, nutritious food. Our urban farm provides fresh food to organizations across our community. Our dedicated group of volunteers make it possible!
🥕 When can I visit?
The farm is open to the community, so you are welcome to come by and take a look anytime. If you are interested in learning more and get started, please plan to attend a Farm Tour (find more details on upcoming events by clicking our event tab) or message our page to set up a time to meet with one of our volunteers.
🥕What should I expect for my first visit?
One of our volunteers will meet and show you around the farm. This will take about 15 minutes, and then we would love it if you stayed and helped! Every little bit helps – but most stay for around an hour on their first visit.
🥕What should I wear?
Please wear close-toed shoes, and any clothing you need to be comfortable, weather-permitting. Please keep in mind that this is a garden, and we do occasionally have ants and other insects. You will also want to bring sunscreen and water. You are welcome to bring your own gloves / garden tools, but we also have a limited number of these items available for volunteers.
🥕What tasks will be expected of me when I visit?
There is always something to do around the farm! Our volunteers help weed, prepare beds, plant, harvest, water and complete construction projects. When you arrive, please be sure to touch base with David or Bettina to find out the necessary tasks for that day. We also have a sign-in sheet, that we ask that you sign upon arrival, so we can keep track of volunteers.
🥕How often can I volunteer?
As often as you’d like! One of our volunteers can be found at the farm most days of the week. There is always work to be done, and once you are comfortable with our system, you are welcome to come by anytime to pitch in. Many volunteers drop by for 1-3 hour shifts throughout the week, depending on their schedule.
🥕Can I bring my children?
We are kid-friendly! Kids love pitching in and helping in the farm.
Thank you again for your interest in Willowdale Urban Farm. If you have any questions that have not been answered by this FAQ, please feel free to message our page for more information.
